This
is a full-time three year course for those wishing to become teachers
of the F M Alexander Technique. The course is approved by the Society
of Teachers of the Alexander Technique (STAT) and upon completion students
receive a STAT certificate and are entitled to become Members of the Society.
Students on the course are externally moderated by an independent panel
of senior Alexander teachers.
Course Content:
Inhibition and Direction are seen as the core of the training. Individual
and Group Instruction in the Alexander Technique, practical hands-on classes,
lectures in Anatomy and Physiology. Positions of Mechanical Advantage,
Body Mechanics and the relationship between Use,Poise and Posture. The
study of Alexanders books and related literature. Detailed explorations
of the work are undertaken during second and third years in the form of
weekly special sessions , where two students work with one senior teacher
for an hour. In addition, third year students work individually with the
director and deputy on a weekly basis. Third year students undertake a
programme of supervised teaching practice. Specialist tuition in the Use
of the Voice. Specialist tuition in Movement. Practical skills sessions
(use of tools etc. and applications in sports/games etc.)
The course is held at the Fellside Centre, in Kendal. Originally a Primary
School, the building has been converted for use as an Alexander Teacher
Training Centre. Facilities include two large carpeted rooms with mirrors
and such equipment as is appropriate, a Movement Performance and Creativity
Studio, Library, Music Room with piano, Sauna and comfortable cafe room.
Alexander teachers have been trained at Fellside since 1986.

intake JANUARY 2018:
Each Week Monday 12.00 to 4.30, Tuesday to Wednesday,
9.30 - 2.00 Thursday 9.00 - 1:30
Total: 18 hours per week. Each term 11 weeks. Three terms
per year.
Fees:£1550.00 per term
(for students wanting part time attendance £40 per day)
